Z Brake-Lite Attenuator '57 Strat Reissue with Burns Mini Tri-Sonic Pickups and Kahler Locking Whammy System. I rewired my Strat to have a 2-way kill switch in the lower cutaway; the middle 'tone control' is actually a switch that converts the pickup wiring between series/parallel and also can pull out to invert the phase of the middle pickup. This or an attenuator. I use the Dr. Z Brake Lite on my 40 watt Bandmaster, but I also have a 5 watt Dr. Z Mini Z that I can still crank without waking up anyone in the next room. If you're only recording and not gigging, there's a lot of Dr. Z, Reeves and others.
![]() I am tempted to buy the Palmer PDI-06 attenuator, but I was unable to find any useful reviews. A lot of people are using the THD Hot Plate and Dr Z Air Brake, but not the Palmer. On the other hand Palmer equipment gets very good reviews generally, so I am wondering if any of you guys have any experience with the PDI-06 attenuator. The Palmer is the cheapest of the bunch, but Palmer is not regarded as a cheap company. The attenuation levels are not comparable one to one as Palmer does not indicate the dB, but rather the percentage of power transferred to the speaker. They go from 70% to 18%. As far as I know 3dB down means half power, so presumably at max attenuation (18%) the Palmer would provide some -8dB. Interestingly enough, most reviews I've read say that beyond 8dB attenuation the sounds gets affected too much, regardless of the attenuator. ![]() So, any of you guys have any experience with the Palmer piece? ![]() Comments are closed.
